This is what the sketches for my personal comics look like. I can’t believe I’m not working for Marvel yet.
This isn’t a legit thing (yet), I’m doing this because I felt I should have some recent examples of comicings for things I’m applying for. So I sketched out this mockup scenario that I’ll finish and polish featuring Maire, Dadu, Swordgirl, Notangra and Cail (I swear they all have actual names now too though!). Maire is in there mostly just because I’m comfortable with drawing her and didn’t want to put in a random new filler character.
I’ve been kind of working out something that involves the four others though. Maire would fit right in. Crap. I’ll probably change my mind about them again soon~ (this would be Cail and Notangra’s 4th scenario change XD)
Maire in some fancier new duds. Being a character of mine is basically being in a neverending makeover show.
This is actually not very different from her 2nd costume I guess, just a bit more decorated, covered up and pantaloooons~ The colorings though… Now that there’s gold in the blue vest they’re really reminding me of a specific historical military uniform, but I can’t remember which country :P
Today at work I was making Kitt help me pick out a name for Notangra and I think I’ve settled on one. Let’s give it a few days and see if it sticks before I start editing all the tags. This joyous occasion warranted an expression sheet though, with the bottom one feeling completely ooc. I redrew that face a million times and it still feels like… ech. Notangra has to be serious and broody (or derp), I won’t accept it any other way XD. (S)He’s channeling Eddie here a little I think. The hair is also getting worryingly more erratic each time I draw it.
So that anon from this morning made me think of my other non-white characters out of which Maire is my dearly beloved. (depicted here whitewashed out of laziness, I didn’t want to cross-hatch her skin and mess her up)
She is seriously overdue for a reboot, wardrobe-wise. Out of all the themaor cast I enjoyed drawing her the most and she was the most frequently favorited by amputee fetish galleries, an easy achievement given the fact that she’s the only amputee in the main cast, but an achievement nonetheless.
I’m sort of rubbing all my oc’s together to try and get something new out of them. (like mutant babies) I also should do more stupid sketches like this on workdays.
I will learn to properly draw you as time goes by, my lady. Unless your game sucks.
So, I’ve mentioned how I truly love Drakengard and Nier with my INNERMOST SOUL before, either here or on my previous sketchblog. Drakengard 2 does not exist. The developer for these games, Cavia, died, so any hopes for another (good) sequel were dead. Except that they’re totally making Drag on Dragoon 3 now. With the guys from Drakengard and Nier. And the composer from Nier (AAA!). The guy responsible for the horrible darkness and tragedy of Drakengard and Nier is writing (AAAAAAA!). The rest of this entry could go on like this: AAAAAAAAAAAAA∞~!
If/when they localize this, I will buy a ps3. I’m not kidding, I will pick this game over Dragon Age 3 if I had to choose only one.

The blame is on Skyrim this time which has been a horrible distraction. I started a new mage but after putting one point in destruction I decided that sneakythief was more my style and ended up a with a stealthy archer.
Anyway, Notangra and Dadu, grumpy grumps. Quick doodly because I wanted to see how they looked together.
He will not be out-swooshed.

I think I’ll take a nap now, I’ve been up for 2 and a half hours already and my vacation-mode will not allow me to function on that much awake-time.
Quick bit of morning-swooshy, messing around with the ‘Brush’ in Sai. I kind of want a normal hard round brush like in Photoshop for Sai, does that exist? The marker tool seems a like it should be, but it feels very different somehow.

So the hue/saturation option in Photoshop is still nifty as hell and I made a sheet with possible Dadu costume colors, based on the option I traumatized miz with yesterday. I didn’t add all the patterns to their own layer so they colorized with everything else to make things look weird and bright but this is basically for the ‘body’ parts of his outfit; the coat/pants and scarf/sari thing. If anyone has any input on these I would really appreciate it. These aren’t the only options of course, but the ones I could cheat up easily by playing with the sliders.
Personally I kind of like 2’s earthy thing, 4 and 8’s pinkness because it makes me laugh and the teal in 5. Though that matches SG closely and I don’t know if I want them to wear the same colors if they’re not from the same country/city/placething. Argh, argh. I will change the setting to the Matrix and they can all wear cool black trenchcoats instead.
Costumes, part 1! Slight variations of their original costumes (see SG’s here, Dadu’s here). Dadu’s is mostly “Indian lady” inspired (I specifically googled Indian female fashion for him) and SG’s is… Shadow of the Colossus meets Nier? Or something? And yes, of course Dadu’s clothes will remain uniformly hot pink, that color has nothing to do with the fact that I couldn’t come up with a good color scheme that would match his skin quickly… (help? :D)
Dadu either doesn’t fight or he’s a supportive caster, I haven’t decided yet, so his clothes can be impractical and frilly. He’s a pretty pretty princess after all.
As for SG, I’m debating on keeping the midriff bare or not. On one hand, SG doesn’t have any personal qualms about exposing her body (because she’s an unadjusted idiot) but if she’s the melee dps SOME kind of armor might be nice? My other melee oc Notangra is armored to the teeth though, so switching it up a bit with SG is a nice change of pace, drawing-wise. Also, SG is pretty much Tarzan so where would she be able to get her hands on proper armor? Blah blah, character babblings.

Wow I know nothing about color, but maybe some gold and then darker shades of pink or something? (Or would that just make it even more feminine. Definitely not green or anything though.) Anyhow I looove these costumes, especially Dadu’s (in its asymmetrical glory) ⊙▽⊙

The dressup dollies for Swordgirl and Damseldude I was talking about earlier, might as well post them here in their nude glory. You know that’s some sexy barbie anatomy hidden behind those censorbars, hmmm.
I’ve been tweaking their coloring a little bit. Swordgirl is back to her original design with red hair and grey eyes, but with the greyish skin still there. I want there to be something that says “Hello, I am not human.” about her and the skintone seems to be the easiest way to bring that across. I’m not set on her eyecolor yet though.
As for Damseldude, I gave him Swordgirl’s ‘old’ grey hair in this and laughed about it for about five minutes. That he’s going to have dark/tan skin is pretty much the only thing I’m sure about with him (that, and his hair being a dark shade).
Ah yes her again, and it’s also the return of the rainbow overlay~ Though, to tell you a secret, I use rainbow overlays in everything I do. I actually just closed down the file for this without saving it properly because I’m a huge noob so this low res version is the only evidence it ever existed.
I kind of have a name for her now, maybe. It depends on the setting she’s thrown in eventually. I also made dressup-bases for her and Damseldude so I can tweak their outfits to my heart’s content~ (so yeah, warning, they might be taking over my blog a bit)
These are the Swordgirlboy’s Adventure things I mentioned earlier. I still like them a lot. They were drawn over the course of a few months in 2011 and served to illustrate the ‘meet-cute’ between Swordgirlboy and Damseldude (who’s in the crashing blimp).
Swordgirlboy is the male version of Swordgirl who I initially made right after Swordgirl because I needed to practice drawing dudes and didn’t need more chick OC’s. They’re basically the same person and switch their gender on my whim :’)
Don’t worry, I’ll probably quit her again soon and then it’s back to the occassional fanarts~
